A Personal Journey
Awakening to Purpose: The Journey from Compliance to Conscious Resistance
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been questioning the world around me. For nearly 25 years, I’ve seen how systems operate beneath the surface—how corporations influence governments, manipulate media narratives, and introduce toxins into our food, water, and air. Institutions that were built to protect us, such as regulatory agencies and public health organizations, have been infiltrated by corporate interests and no longer serve the people. Despite being awake to these realities, I, like many others, continued to operate within the system. I had a job, a career in the corporate world, and I tried to make peace with it. After all, what else was I supposed to do?
But then, everything changed. This is the story of my journey creating AwakeApparel.
The Pandemic
When the world first learned about the pandemic in late 2019, no one could have predicted how drastically life would shift. By 2020, we were all navigating new rules: mask mandates, social distancing, quarantine protocols, and restricted social interactions. At first, it seemed like temporary measures. But as the months dragged on, it became clear that this was a new reality. The government mandates kept piling up, and with them came a sense of unease.
2021 was the year everything truly shifted. Vaccine rollouts began, and what started as incentives quickly turned into coercion. I watched as people were offered money, lottery entries, even burgers and fries to get vaccinated. It all seemed off, and my family and I decided to wait. What followed was an onslaught of societal pressure—threats, punishments, and mandates that divided us more than ever.
The Wake-Up Call
The introduction of vaccine passports in late 2021 marked a significant escalation in the restrictions. Suddenly, society became divided into two tiers—those who could participate in public life and those who couldn’t. We were barred from activities like dining out, traveling, and attending public events, creating a clear distinction between those who complied and those who didn’t. Overnight, we found ourselves on the outside, isolated by a system that normalized compliance and deepened societal division.
Beyond the restrictions themselves, what truly shocked me was the extent of the villainization against those who chose not to get vaccinated. The media, government, and even public health figures perpetuated a narrative branding the unvaccinated as dangerous, selfish, and the reason the pandemic persisted. Terms like ‘Pandemic of the Unvaccinated’ and ominous warnings of a ‘Winter of Death’ were blasted everywhere. In some circles, there were even serious discussions about imprisoning, fining, or forcibly vaccinating those who refused—some even went so far as to openly wish death upon the unvaccinated. This wasn’t just pressure—it was an unprecedented level of demonization. It felt as though anyone who questioned the mainstream narrative, regardless of their reasons, was vilified and silenced.
Standing My Ground
It wasn’t just the government that enforced these rules—it was society. Neighbors turned on neighbors, families were torn apart by differing opinions, and friends were lost over decisions that, just a year earlier, seemed unthinkable. I never thought I’d see people act this way, but fear has a way of dividing us. And as much as I stood firm in my beliefs, I realized something: I wasn’t speaking out. I wasn’t doing enough. I confided my thoughts to only those I trusted, staying silent as the world around me fell into a pattern of conformity.
Then came December 2021. My company introduced a vaccine mandate. For me, this was a turning point. I had to choose: comply or stand my ground. I knew the cost of standing firm could be my career, but in that moment, I made my decision. I wouldn’t comply, no matter the cost. There’s something deeply liberating about making a choice that aligns with your values, even if it means sacrificing everything else. These values are embedded in AwakeApparel—standing up for beliefs, even when it’s hard or unpopular.
A Career Sacrificed
As 2021 turned into 2022, I realized that my decision was going to have lasting consequences. I had been in my corporate role for over 15 years, and now, I was at risk of losing it all. But even as I weathered the storm, I understood that this wasn’t just about my job—it was about breaking free from the control that corporations and governments had over me. No one should ever have to choose between their livelihood and their personal beliefs.
By March 2023, my company terminated my employment. The official reason? Global corporate restructuring. But I knew that my decision to resist the mandates had played a role. Ironically, losing my job felt like the final push I needed. I was done being a pawn on the corporate chessboard.
From Awakening to Action
The truth is, this experience changed me. I had always been awake to the systems of control around us, but I had continued to live within them. Now, I was ready to build something of my own—something meaningful. After being laid off in 2023, I decided to make the most of my time and turn this into an opportunity. It was the first time in my life where I truly enjoyed what I was doing. From learning how to build the website, designing the shirts, and actually registering the business, every part of the process was deeply satisfying. AwakeApparel started as a side project, a way for me to channel my passion for critical thinking and resistance while I figured out my next steps. It was fun and rewarding, but I wasn’t fully committed yet.
Each time I applied for another corporate job, I realized something: that world was no longer for me. Every soulless interview was a sign that my path was changing, whether I was ready for it or not. Every rejection felt like confirmation that I wasn’t meant to return to that life.
I eventually accepted another corporate job to pay the bills, but my heart wasn’t in it. Every day, I felt the pull of AwakeApparel growing stronger. AwakeApparel wasn’t just a business—it was my mission. It was born from my desire to create change, to resist conformity, and to empower others to do the same.
Moving Forward with Purpose
AwakeApparel has now become my purpose. It’s a platform for those who feel silenced, for those who are questioning the system, and for those who are ready to take a stand. Every design, every article, and every course we create is meant to inspire thought, challenge the system, and empower action. This is more than just selling clothes—it’s about making a difference. It’s about creating a community of individuals who are awake to what’s happening in the world and who are ready to live authentically.
Today, AwakeApparel is a vibrant platform, and we’re only just getting started. We’ve built collections that inspire critical thinking, launched free courses to help people take action, and created tools to mobilize real-world change.
Building a World Beyond Division
For me, this journey is deeply personal, but it’s also bigger than that. It’s about showing people that we don’t have to comply with systems designed to control us. We can live freely, challenge the status quo, and create a world that values truth, autonomy, and purpose. More importantly, it’s about building a healthier, happier, and more authentic life—not just for ourselves, but for future generations. I want to leave a better world for my son, my nieces, and everyone who comes after us—a world where freedom, integrity, and human connection are at the heart of everything we do.
And to those who went through similar challenges, who were hurt, rejected, or felt isolated, I urge you to consider forgiveness. Carrying hate only serves to divide us further. I know the pain runs deep, but we must rise above it. Many of those who turned their backs on us were misled by the same forces we’ve been fighting against. Now more than ever, we need to heal, unite, and face the future together. The challenges ahead are too great to face divided. Let’s build a world that is united, resilient, and free.
